On Monday, two motorcyclists were killed in a late-night crash in Brooklyn’s Cypress Hills neighborhood. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), a 2025 Harley-Davidson was struck by a 2021 Mercedes-Benz SUV at the intersection of Elton Street and Atlantic Avenue.

Police said the SUV pulled into the path of the motorcycle while making a left turn onto Elton Street. Both the motorcycle driver and a passenger were ejected during the collision. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was transported to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center but later died of her injuries.

The SUV driver remained at the scene and was later transported to Brookdale University Hospital in stable condition, police said. No arrests have been made in the accident. The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.

Drivers turning into the path of oncoming motorcycles are a common and leading cause of severe and often fatal crashes, as the motorcyclist has little chance to react. In New York, drivers turning left at intersections are legally required to yield the right-of-way to all oncoming traffic. Failing to do so can result in serious consequences when a crash occurs.

Drivers who cause a fatal collision may face charges such as criminally negligent homicide or vehicular manslaughter, depending on the circumstances. These offenses carry significant penalties, including prison time, steep fines, and long-term license suspension.
