New York City settles on $2 Million Dollars in retribution for the wrongful death of a Rikers Island inmate
“Our Criminal Justice System failed this young man not once but twice causing his wrongful death. First, the Probation Department violated him and sent him to jail for working overtime at his job. Second, the Correction Department by allowing “The Program” a shakedown operation run by correction officers to exist at the Robert Davoren Juvenile Detention Facility at Rikers Island which resulted in him being beaten to death.” – Attorney Sanford Rubenstein
In response to the 2 Million dollar settlement, the mother of Christopher Robinson said, “I would much rather have my son and the life we had before” - Charnel Robinson
Three correction officers were convicted in connection with “The Program” including two who dodged 50-year prison terms in sweetheart deals with prosecutors. Two inmates are serving sentences of 10 and 12 years in the killing, while a third still faces trial.
